The Press Room

The Press Room is an excellent Italian restaurant located in Shepherdstown, WV. It is more of a "light" Italian food experience and is on the upscale side but definitely worth a visit. I recommend any of the fresh mozzarella specials for an appetizer and the shrimp scampi for your entree with the zabaglione to top it off for dessert. Never fails.

Tower of London

I visited the Tower of London during a recent trip to the United Kingdom. This is the oldest part of the site and it is 1,000 years old.

Maryland Heights

In May I took a six mile hike at Maryland Heights across the river from Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. I would recommend this hike for anyone who enjoys the out doors and/or history. There is a shorter route that can be taken that leads directly to the overlook of Harper's Ferry (see first photo). The longer trail leads you around the top of the mountain with an excellent view looking east as well as what is left of Civil War fortification. I would suggest bringing plenty of water and is fun without or without company (I did it myself and found it to be very peaceful).

Overkill

Mega straw in a mini Wendy's cup.

P.F. Chang's

If you have an opportunity, stop into P.F. Chang's for a little Chinese bistro. I dined at the one at Tyson's Galleria recently. Delicious!

Juliet's Italian Market

Located on East Church Street in Frederick, Maryland, Juliet's Italian Market is grocery store and deli all in one. One of the best sandwiches I have ever had is from here and I get it every time I am there. It was a special the first time I went so I have to request it. It is a panini with fresh mozzarella, turkey, tomato, and pesto (all freshly sliced ingredients). Simple but amazingly delicious. They also have different types of pastas and sandwiches for sale as well as desserts. I definitely recommend stopping in here as it it just right off of the main drag of East Patrick Street.

Ice Cream

It has not been in my intention for this blog to be used for food review purposes. I just like to share good places that I come across.

For the past 11 years, I have been ordering double chocolate shakes from Jules Frozen Custard in Inwood. Not everyone knows what is it, so I have to explain it every time but it is very good (chocolate syrup with chocolate ice cream).

I am sure most people have heard of Cold Stone Creamy. I usually focus on more obscure places but they have some pretty good selections.

Puzzlewit

Did you know that when campaigning for the Presidential seat (which would have resulted in his third term), Teddy Roosevelt called the then current President William Howard Taft a puzzlewit and a fathead?

I encourage you to use puzzlewit as a regular part of your vocabulary because chances are, no one has heard of it.

Potbelly Sandwich Works

Potbelly located at National Harbor, MD

I highly recommend this sandwich joint to anyone who comes across it. I first discovered this chain at an airport and have been enjoying their subs ever since. Anyone I have ever recommended it to or anyone I taken to a location have really enjoyed it. There are several throughout Washington, D.C. There are over 200 stores located in the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin.

Ford's Theatre/Peterson House

If you ever get the opportunity to site see around our nation's capital, I would highly recommend stopping into Ford's Theatre on 10th Street, the place where President Lincoln was mortally shot in April 1865 by John Wilkes Booth. You can also visit the Peterson House across the street, the location where Lincoln was carried to expire. Also note that this is located very close to Fro Zen Yo so be sure to stop in there as well.

Historical Four State

There are many locations of historical significance in the four state region some of which are more obscure than others. In Winchester, Virginia alone, it boasts the original site of Fort Loudon, George Washington's Headquarters (pictured above), Stonewall Jackson's Headquarters, and Abram's Delight to just name a few. Not to mention, the city of Winchester changed hands 72 times during the Civil War.

Other locations in the area include Harper's Ferry (self explanatory), the original cabin (albeit reconstructed) of the first settler of the area Morgan Morgan, Belle Boyd's house, the location of the battle of Antietam in Sharpsburg, Maryland, the grave of Lincoln body guard Ward Lamon, etc.
